Activity: Research and Review
Work in small groups, each group focusing on one of the below cartoons. You will spend time researching the context of the cartoon and present your analysis to the class.


Part A)
after viewing your chosen image; create a visual brainstorm identifying what you might already know about this image and its purpose for the argument. Consider how the current political and social climate is referenced in the cartoon. Identify any symbols you can recognize or associate with specific meaning.
Part B)
Research- Use the internet to find newspaper articles that you believe relate to the topic of the cartoon.
Part C)
Class Presentation- Present your findings to the class. Provide some insight into the political/social background of the cartoon. Present your analysis of how the cartoonist has combined text & speech with visual narrative to present an argument. Identify the persuasive features of the visual text and how they work to create meaning.
