the art of
Persuasion
This website was informed by a vast and varied range of resources and research. Briefly summarised and linked below are three of the major articles that informed our approach and collaboration of ideas that created the website. As well as peer reviewed literature there was a major emphasis on linking all work back to The Australian Curriculum and AusVELS which were noted in the teachers tab under specific topics. All other References are listed below.
Andrews, R 1995, ‘Problems in Teaching Argument’, Teaching and Learning Argument, Cassel, London, pp. 1-25.
The Chapter Problems in Teaching Argument summarises what has been previously missing from the classroom when teaching argument. This includes a lack of student self expression and political discourse as well as the abundance of advertising. Although we have touched on advertising the importance of variety in teaching persuasive technique was confirmed through this document

Felton, M & Herko, S 2004. 'From Dialogue to Two-Sided Argument: Scaffolding Adolescents' Persuasive Writing', Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, Vol. 47, No. 8 p. 672-683.
This article provided information on how to scaffold argument and persuasive writing for High schools aged students. Although this article primarily addresses debate and oratory techniques they are and were transferable and used across all platforms of argument. This was also included as a useful resource in addition to the website as debate was a lacking on the site and is a topic that will be addressed and added in the future. It also informed creators of importance of basing all instruction around meaningful context.

Johnson, D, Johnson, R, Sheppard, S & Smith, K 2005. 'Pedagogies of Engagement: Classroom‐based Practices', Journal of engineering education, Vol.94 No.1, p87-101.
This document did not inform the content of the site but the actual site itself. The authors speak of engagement as key to learning across various and contextually meaningful platforms including, texts, web based material, video etc. which were consciously included throughout all activities provided. It also touches on student led and collaborative learing as a useful ad important classroom tool.
